David Duke Carr, an American retired football player who played quarterback for the NFL for 11 seasons, was born on July 21, 1979. The Houston Texans selected him first overall in the 2002 NFL Draft. Fresno State was where he played collegiate football.
Carr also had a professional playing career with the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, and Carolina Panthers. As a reserve for the Giants following their triumph over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, he was awarded a Super Bowl ring.
Carr took over as Fresno State’s starting quarterback in 2000 and 2001 after redshirting in 1999. The Bulldogs went 7-5 and 11-3 while he was the quarterback. During his senior year, the team defeated Colorado, Oregon State, and Wisconsin, all of which were members of BCS conferences. There was speculation about whether the Bulldogs would earn a BCS bid, which was unheard of for a BCS non-automatic qualifying conference team at the time. They rose to number eight in the polls, and Carr was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
Carr completed 565 of 901 passes for 7,849 yards and 65 touchdowns against 22 interceptions during his collegiate career. During his senior year, he won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and finished fifth in the 2001 Heisman Trophy voting.
