When is the best time to Wildcard in FPL ahead of Gameweek 9 and do you get another later in the sea

As the Premier League season returns, FPL managers have more and more big decisions to make surrounding their teams.

With many key players picking up injuries and some top-flight sides’ fixtures taking a turn for the better, wholesale changes are expected.

And managers are being tempted into using their Wildcard, which is a chip in Fantasy Premier League that allows you to make unlimited transfers to your team.

So talkSPORT.com takes a look at when the best time to Wildcard may be and whether you get another one this season…

When is the best time to Wildcard?

Many FPL managers are now debating whether they should activate their Wildcard, with Gameweeks 9 and 10 thought to be the most popular options.

Usually, the best time to use the chip during a season is when there is a big fixture swing for teams or if there are large amounts of injuries.

This is because the one weekly free transfer may not be enough, with multiple changes needed to give managers the best possible side.

For example, Liverpool, West Ham and Aston Villa had difficult games to begin with this season and not many managers included them in their teams.

But now they both face what would be considered ‘easier’ opponents in the coming weeks.

And therefore that makes them more valuable to own on FPL as they are more likely to earn your team points, with managers wanting to load up on their players.

Also, highly-owned FPL players such as Bukayo Saka, Pervis Estupinan, Sven Botman and Ben Chilwell have all picked up knocks.

This, combined with the fixture swings, means that many Wildcards are expected to be used this week after the international break.

Do you get another later in the season?

Yes, FPL managers get two wildcards per season.

The first is available instantly before the second becomes available after Gameweek 20.

The upcoming gameweek is the ninth of the campaign, meaning we are almost halfway to the Wildcard reset.

If you don't use your first Wildcard before the second one becomes available, it will be cancelled out.

So, therefore, the next couple of gameweeks could be considered a good time to activate the chip ahead of receiving another.
